The Utah State Railroad Museum is one of the best facilities in the state, set near Ogden’s Historic 25th Street and Tracks. One of the most significant collections of railroad memorabilia on display covers more than 100 acres. Trains are a staple of geographical America; it should be no surprise that an entire museum is committed to them just outside Salt Lake City!

The contents span over 100 acres worth of exhibits, and all visitors can enjoy free day admission to explore this gem for themselves. This was a stop along historic Route 66 and other notable long-distance tracks such as Denver & Rio Grande Western Railway Company (D&RGW) line during 1889-1958, which ran from Omaha, Nebraska, into Chicago, Illinois.

What can you learn by coming to this Museum? Well, kids will enjoy exploring the interactive train play area and seeing all the different toy trains. Adults like how hands-on it is for everybody in the family, and they also appreciate that volunteers here make it a point to answer questions about railroading throughout history.

In this Museum, you will be able to peruse rolling stock from all different eras of railroad progress. You’ll see electric locomotives, old-wives fashioned steam engines, cabooses that legends like John Wayne have ridden in.

There’s even a replica of Bartholomew James’ Rocket which took 14 hours 25 minutes (and now we can shave an hour off that time!) It was decades ago that pioneers had utilized this avenue into the wilderness, and now it is our responsibility too! The best part? Children get in free, so come on down!
